    Training, training and more training...

Alright, I said I was going to start writing about other things besides the kiddos so here goes....
The other thing that is consuming my life right now and that I enjoy 95% of the time is running. When I moved to Indianapolis Chuck and I both decided to start running, we signed up for the Indianapolis Mini Marathon in 2004 and we have run every mini since, the only one that we have missed was in 2011 because Jack was born the day before the race. We try to sign up for lots of other races that are held here in Indy, like the Shamrock run, Fishers Freedom Fest and the Freedom run in Carmel, now we mostly focus on races that are kid friendly and that allow us to push the double bob, but the mini has always been our longest run of the year and really the only one we do without the kiddos.
Chuck ran a marathon in 2010, I was pregnant with Jack and was very happy cheering from the sidelines! After that marathon, Chuck said he had no desire to ever run another marathon, I on the other hand really enjoyed the atmosphere of the marathon but was really concerned about the training and the time commentment so my theory was the only marathon I ever wanted to run was the New York City Marathon!! It's a lottery type deal and I am not a lucky person so I figured I would sign up but the chances of actually getting in were pretty slim! Well, lucky me, I got in! Fortunately, Chuck had also been signing up since before his first marathon and he just happened to get in as well, so we began training for my first marathon together.
I really didn't mind the training, the one day a week that both kiddos were in school for 4 hours I would literally drop them off, start running and keep running until it was time to pick them up. It didn't matter though because I was super excited to be training for my first marathon and to top it off it was the New York City Marathon!! Well we all know how that turned out, so not only had I done all the training without the satisfaction of completing the one marathon I wanted to run, it was the end of the running season here in Indy so we really had no options for another race.
So after a month or so of being in a funk and not being satisfied, I signed up for the next race close to home, the Carmel Marathon on April 20th. We are now about 5 weeks from the race, training has been good but different. I pulled out 16 miles on my own this past Saturday and I was very proud of that but also realize on race day I have another 10 miles to go. The next 5 weeks should be interesting.....
